I feel like I need help to get through this
No. You do not need to see a Doctor first in order to make an appointment with a Counsellor or Psychotherapist. If you would like to contact me and me and discuss your needs or even work out what you may need, call me on 0477 419 428 I am happy to talk with you about your enquiry and see if an appointment is right for you or I may refer and connect you to someone that can assist your needs.
This varies from person to person and depends upon the situation and context for each client. The sessions are based upon conversations between us. I aim for us to talk about what is most important to you and this can mean reviewing past situations, what you hope for in the future, or what might be happening now or between sessions. This helps to develop a story or picture about what causes problems, how they can be understood, and what could be done to address them.
Along the way life can change too, new things happen, and situations develop. I do aim for us to review what has been useful in our conversations and how it has been helpful so you can see yourself changing, growing in awareness, understanding and managing better.
Counselling sessions can be face to face, telephone, ZOOM or walk and talk.

When you choose to see a counsellor, your initial appointment will likely be more rewarding if you do a little homework ahead of time. Doing so will not only help you clarify why you are seeking professional help but will help the provider you see know whether she believes she will be able to help you or not. We will have an initial brief phone chat first and then you may want to make a list of:
Any issues, concerns, or symptoms you are coping with, even if they seem to be unrelated or are not the reason why you are seeking therapy
Key personal information, including any major stresses or recent life changes
What initially made you think about going to see a counsellor
